Sonny Upton ready for Hall or Nothing fight with Warburton
Belfast-raised light middleweight Sonny Upton[11(5)-2(1)] knows that he cannot underestimate William Warburton in Cannock on Sunday
The middle brother of the Upton clan fights on the undercard of his younger sibling’s English light welterweight title fight with Luke Paddock, and a slip-up against the dangerous Warburton could destroy his own English title plans.
Sonny is due to face Chadwell Heath’s Ben Hall [8(2)-0-1] for the vacant English belt on a Frank Warren show in September, but has a real test first this weekend.
Warburton [20(3)-96(2)-8] is currently going through a purple patch, with the 29 year old beating former British title challenger Jason Welborn and debutant Callum Pearson in recent weeks.
“Assessing the challenge posed by the wily Warburton, Upton admits that he “is a tough veteran and he’s beaten a lot of kids against the odds so it’d be silly for me to go in there thinking I’m going to have an easy fight.”
“Warburton knows his way around the ring so I’ve prepared fully, I know what to expect from him, and I’m ready to put on a show.”
“The fight is about keeping busy and getting myself ready for Ben Hall, but you can’t overlook anyone in this game.”
