Shauna O’Keefe misses medal at European Championships following Russian loss
Shauna O’Keefe fell one win short of a medal this afternoon at the European Championships in Sofia.
The brave Tipperary lightweight took on Russian Daria Abramova in Bulgaria, and was outgunned over four rounds in their quarter final.
To her credit, a bloodied O’Keefe marched forward and had pockets of success throughout, but the Munster woman was no match for the destructive Russian who landed shots greater in both volume and power
The result was in little doubt, and Abramova was handed a wide verdict on all three cards (40:34, 40:35 x2).
Three Irish boxers remain at the tournament – Moira McElligott, Gráinne Walsh, and Christina Desmond – and all three will face Russian opposition tomorrow afternoon in the last eight.
