Big Sexy scores Big KO on Belfast card

Sean Turner dealt with a late change of opponent and scored a statement win on the Belfast BoxNation bill at the Waterfront Hall

‘Big Sexy’ had been due for a tough fight with Kamil Sokolowski, a former opponent of Irish heavyweight title rival Con Sheehan. The big Pole would pull out however, leaving Turner to face another former Sheehan opponent in the form of Croatian Igor Mihaljevic.

Sheehan overcame Mihaljevic via a four-round points decision back in September, but since then the Balkan had scored a shock stoppage win over Tom Dallas.

There would be no surprises here though, with Turner obliterating the Croat in the second round.

The Dubliner began at a controlled pace, picking his shots well and stunning Mihaljevic in the final thirty seconds with a big left hook.

Upping the tempo in the second, Turner staggered his opponent with a right straight counter before a huge shot sent Mihaljevic down for the count.

The impressive win sees Turner move to 10(7)-0, while a dazed Mihaljevic drops to 4(1)-8(5).

Most importantly, while the bout only lasted less than two rounds, it was scheduled for eight, and Turner is now eligible to fight for the Irish title.
