Ryan Farrag paid tribute to Belfast’s Ryan Burnett following their British bantamweight title clash at the weekend.

Burnett defended the Lonsdale belt in an exciting points wins against the Liverpudlian – who was admirably game throughout and ensured that the Irishman did not have it all his own way.

While the former European champion was disappointed with the loss, he was hugely respectful in defeat and complimented the talents of Burnett.

Speaking in the immediate aftermath of the fight, Farrag credited his Adam Booth-trained opponent.

“He’s good,” Farrag told IFL TV. “I think his strength was very surprising, he was very strong inside.”

“He has fast hands, although I knew that anyway. He’s a good fighter.”

Farrag more than played his part in the sort of exciting fight that Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn had being demanding of Burnett, and the Scouser admits that he is keen to watch the clash back despite the negative result.

“I’m looking forward to watching the fight back even though I was beaten, it seemed like a good fight to watch while I was in there.”
