Rock Solid: Ormond registers another win

By Jonny Stapleton

The spotlight was on Paul McCloskey, Carl Frampton and the Odyssey crew last weekend, but another Irish fighter registered an important win on Friday night.

It may not have been as career enhancing as Dudey’s or The Jackal’s victories, but the Clondalkin man has finally got active and is marching up the ranking ladder.

The former St Matthews Amateur defeated journey man Ibrar Riyaz via points on the under card of Friday’s controversial Commonwealth title fight between Jamie Cox and Obodai Sai.

The Rock was solid if not spectacular but used the bout to try some new things.

Ormond will now appear on BDR Promotions October 22 fight before appearing on another Warren show in November.

“The fight went 8 rounds. I won every round so I enjoyed it. I tried a few new things that I had been working on with Pascal in gym, I brought then in to the fight and was happy enough,” Ormond told www.irish-boxing.com.

“Warren told Pascal he was impressed, which is good. I am now looking forward to Dundalk. I am back in training tomorrow no rest at all. I am going to keep busy.”
