RESULTS: The Liffey Crane Hire Irish Boxer of the Month – SEPTEMBER
We thought August was massive, but September’s vote has broken records again.
Following three days of voting and thousands of votes, the Liffey Crane Hire Boxer of the Month for September has been chosen from the nine nominees.
Niall Kennedy
The Wexford big man claimed the New England heavyweight title to add to his Massachusetts State belt in one of the biggest away wins for Irish boxing in recent times.
The Gorey Garda upset house favourite Alexis Santos in the headline fight of a DiBella Entertainment card at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino.
Kennedy showed superior boxing skills, a bigger heart, and a great chin to deservedly claim a win, taking a split decision over ten fast-paced rounds.
The win becomes even more remarkable when you consider 33 year old Kennedy’s personal circumstances. During his camp for the fight his first child, MJ, was born twelve weeks prematurely and only arrived home from hospital this week. The little fighter though proved inspirational for his father who gave one of the performances of the year out in Connecticut.
The win also secured Kennedy [9(5)-0] a promotional contract with Murphys Boxing as his career now looks to go from strength to strength.
Second place went to Caoimhin Agyarko Hynes who completed an amazing recovery from being stabbed five months ago to winning a multi-nations in Barcelona, while European Junior gold medalist Callum Walsh finished third.
