Rematch for Danny Jacobs added to Frampton-Santa Cruz undercard

New York middleweight star Daniel Jacobs has been added to the undercard of Carl Frampton’s Big Apple showdown with Leo Santa Cruz on July 30th.

ESPN journalist Dan Rafael confirmed the addition to the card on this week’s SportsNation Boxing Chat.

Jacobs will fight in a rematch with Los Angeles’s Sergio Mora, whom he defeated via second round retirement last year when Mora injured his ankle and was unable to continue. In the opening stanza both boxers had hit the canvas.

The Al Haymon-advised Jacobs [31(28)-1(1)] is coming off the back of a career-best first round knockout win over former WBO middleweight champ Peter Quillin in December in what was labelled ‘The Battle of Brooklyn.’

The 29 year old is an immensly popular among boxing fans following his recovery from osteosarcoma, a life-threatening form of bone cancer, in 2011, and has been nicknamed ‘The Miracle Man.’

Jacobs currently holds the lightly-regarded WBA ‘regular’ title (with Gennady Golovkin holding the full belt), and his only loss came in 2010 when he challenged Russia’s Dmitry Pirog for the vacant WBO title.

The bout is an immediate rematch for the 35 year old Mora [34(28)-9(4)-2] who is a former WBC light middleweight champion.

Also added to the card at the Barclay’s Centre is a WBO female featherweight title fight between Puerto Rican champion Amanda Serrano [28(21)-1(0)-1] and Dahiana Santana [35(14)-8(1)] of the Dominican Republic.

The two fights join a scheduled bout for Coalisland’s Conrad Cummings on the bumper PBC card.
