Quigg and Cruz express desire to fight Frampton

Both Scott Quigg and Leo Santa Cruz expressed a desire to trade leather with new IBF super bantamweight champion of the World Carl Frampton after register successful title defences over the weekend.

After disposing Kiko Martinez of his IBF super bantamweight World title in front of 16,000 fans on September 6 Frampton highlighted Bury native Quigg as his preferred next opponent, whilst mentor Barry McGuigan had Cruz, a fighter ‘The Jackal’ had called out earlier this year, top of his wish list.

And it seems both are keen to share the ring with the Belfast star. After retaining his WBC world super-bantamweight title in Las Vega with a second round stoppage of Manuel Roman  Cruz said,

“I want to fight Frampton next and then Quigg, Then I can take on [Guillermo] Rigondeaux.”

Whilst Quigg also put the World champion on top of his hit list after he stopped Stephane Jamoye to retain his WBA regular title in Manchester hours earlier.

“I was happy with that, I went in there and systematically broke him down,” Quigg told Sky Sports 1.

“I knew he was tough to the head so I went to his body. That was the plan of attack. I broke him down.”

On Frampton, he added: “It’s the fight I want next. If he wants to sit down in a room… If Carl doesn’t want to sit down at the table… They’re the fights I want and I want to test myself against the best.”
