Philip Sutcliffe Jr suffers Majority decision defeat in Germany
Philip Sutcliffe Jr suffered a first career defeat in Germany tonight.
The Dublin light welterweight was hoping to defeat the European #2 and become next in line for the career changing European strap.
However, the Crumlin native lost on points to Anthony Yigit.
Sutcliffe came out on the wrong side of the a 77-75, 77-75, 76-76 score card.
His team were wary of the judges pre bout, but with his reputation as a big hitter he was readily avoided so it was a risk the Dub had to take.
Sutcliffe Jr or his team have yet to speak on the fight or the scoring, but history would suggest if it was that close on the card the former Irish Amateur Champion could have done enough to win on neutral territory,
Again considering he was avoided this clash was billed as his ‘big opportunity’, but with a defeat on his record those chances to break into title contention may now come around that bit easier.
