Peter McDonagh secures fight with British title challenger on Parker-Fury world title undercard

Peter McDonagh [27(3)-28(2)-1] has secured the biggest fight of the Cinderella stage of his career.

The Galway welterweight, reigning Irish champion, boxes on the Joseph Parker v Hughie Fury WBO heavyweight title undercard on Saturday September 23rd and it has been confirmed today that he will face recent British title challenger Shayne Singleton [23(8)-2(2)-1].

The Colne 27 year old was stopped in the fifth last month by reigning British champion Bradley Skeete on a BoxNation show in Brentwood.

An eight-year, 26-fight career has seen Singleton mix it with top domestic opposition in Britain. In 2013 he claimed the English light welterweight title with a split decision win over Curtis Woodhouse before being stopped in the fifth by Sam Eggington in 2015. Singleton bounced back with a good eighth round stoppage over Adil Anwar last year before his defeat to Skeete.

39 year old McDonagh has fought all manner of big names during his long career and the MTK boxer is currently on a ten-fight unbeaten run.

The three-weight Irish champ has set the EBU EU title as a target, and a win against Singleton should help him in this quest.

Also featuring on the bill at the Manchester Arena will be Clonmel heavyweight Con Sheehan [6(1)-0].
