Paddy Power pay out on Mayweather to beat McGregor

The fight is still three days away, but some punters have already received their winnings from bets on the Mayweather-McGregor showdown.

The pair fight on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas where McGregor will look to cause a massive shock in what will be his pro debut.

Irish bookmaking giant Paddy Power however don’t believe that the Dubliner can upset the odds and this morning confirmed that they have paid out on bets for Mayweather to win the twelve round light middleweight contest.

Specifically, the offer applies to straight win bets on Mayweather to defeat McGregor and applies to money staked before midnight last night.

In a social media post today, Paddy Power, rather crassly, declared:

“Always Bet On Black.

We’ve paid out early on a Mayweather Victory.

Because we checked, and only one of them is a boxer.”

A spokesman added that “two of the great movies of all time, Passenger 57 and also Lego Batman, one of the great lines from those two movies was ‘always bet on black.'”

Many on social media criticised the announcement, with some arguing that it is racist.

The outfit also revealed that 80% of the money staked on the fight has gone on McGregor, explaining the Crumlin light middleweights shortening from 7/1 to 10/3.

Mayweather began at around the 1/11 mark, but a constant flood of money backing McGregor has seen the American’s price widen to 1/4.

The pay-out totalled around £250,000.
