Paddy Barnes has confirmed that he will look to relocate for training during his upcoming pro career.

The double Olympic bronze medalist has turned professional and is expected to debut on the Belfast Boxnation show at the Titanic Exhibition Centre on November 5th.

After that however he will look to move overseas for training camps

Barnes revealed on RTÉ 2FM’s Game On that “the plan is to get this fight out of the way, then base myself in England.”

“I’ll see a few trainers and stick with the one I like most.”

Explaining this choice, Barnes reasoned that “I feel that I need to get out of Ireland because there’d be too many distractions.”

“I want to take this pro career seriously and I feel like going away that will stand to me.”

The tactic is one which has been used to much success by friend and two-weight World champion Carl Frampton who splits his time between his home in Belfast and his training camp with Shane McGuigan in London.

One place which Barnes will not be going to is Macklin’s Gym in Marbella. The 29 year old is managed by Macklin, but will not be availing of the facilities in the south of Spain, citing how “that’s one of the things I made sure wouldn’t happen, that I wouldn’t be in Marbella.”

“I’m fair-skinned, it’s too far away, even the language-barrier although there are a lot of English and Irish over there.”

“I just feel it is too far away for me and the heat would kill me every day.”
