Ormond: I tried to rough him up but I got too rough
STEPHEN Ormond has admits he got too rough in his WBO World title eliminator with Terry Flanagan on Saturday night.
‘”The Rock’ was disqualified for persistent use of the head in round 10 of a close WBO European title clash. It certainly was uncharacteristic and surprising from the quiet Dubliner.
Some suggest Ormond got frustrated feeling the fight was slipping away from him, others felt Flangan’s desire to hold in close prompted the reaction, but Ormond claims he was employing rough house tactics in a bid to break the Manchester man down.
The problem being the Celtic Warrior Gym fighter got too rough forcing Steve Grey to disqualify him in round 10.
“He’s a fit lad. I was just trying to wear him down. I was trying to rough him up, it’s just one of those things,” Ormond said after the fight.
“It’s one of those things. I tried to rough him up but I just got too rough. I apologised to him”
