O’Reilly can get revenge for Jason Quigley and Ireland in the Worlds

Middleweight World medal hope Michael O’Reilly has the chance to get revenge for Ireland and now Golden Boy puncher Jason Quigley as he facesĀ Kazkh Zhanibek Alimkhanuly in the quarter finals for the World Championships in Doha on Saturday night.

The 22 year old European Games medalist and Senior Champ defeatedĀ Daniel Lewis in the last 16 with ease on Thursday night will fight for a medal on Saturday.

Alimkhanuly, who stands between the Portlaoise man and a guaranteed bronze, is known to the Irish coaching staff and indeed Irish fans as he denied Donegal’s Jason Quigley gold back in the 2013 World final.

Irish captain Conlan facesĀ a quarter-final battle with Tayfur Aliyev of Azerbaijan, while Irvine, who like fellow Belfast man Conlan and O’Reilly registered victory on Thursday night Ā will clash with Cuban No 3 seed Joahnys Argilagos.

Belfast lightweight SeƔn McComb and Westmeath light-heavyweight Joe Ward are in last-16 action on Friday.

McComb meets Azerbaijanā€™s Albert Selimov in a rematch of their close-fought European Games semi-final, which the Irishman lost.

For World No 5 Ward it’s Ukraineā€™s Oleksandr Kyyzhniak in his first bout in the competition.
