Opponent named for Sugar Ray Moylette’s homecoming step up
Ray Moylette [4(2)-0] will make his Irish debut at the end of the month, and the Mayo lightweight has been presented with a test.
‘Sugar’ Ray makes the move up to six rounds on the Red Corner ‘For Honour and Pride’ show at the National Stadium against South American opposition.
Moylette will box Arnold Martinez [6(1)-2(0)-1] of French Guiana on the June 24th show in Dublin.
It will be Martinez’s first venture outside the domestic scene in his home country and a first fight in just over a year.
In his most recent contest the 28 year old outpointed Damian Lawniczak, debut opponent of Eric Donovan, over six. One bout previously he was held to an eight-round draw with Virgile Degonzaga, who Irish fans may remember for his war with Paul Hyland Jr.
‘La Bomba’ is a clever outside fighter with a good work-rate and will come to win against Moylette.
The Celtic Warriors fighter has had a perfect start to pro life thus far. A debut win in London over tough journeyman Ivan Godor led into a American debut versus the very game Matt Probin, before two first round stoppage wins in a week against Oscar Diaz and Bryan Abraham.
The card next week is headlined by an Irish title double header – Steve Collins Jr v Paddy McDonagh and Luke Keeler v Darren Cruise – alongside appearances from Chris Blaney, Victor Rabei, Allan Phelan, Craig O’Brien, and Thomas Finnegan.
Tickets for the June 24th show cost €40 (general) and €60 (ringside) and are available from the boxers involved.
