Opponent named for Noely Murphy homecoming fight

Noely Murphy [8(2)-0] will make his Irish debut, and may even fight for his first professional title, against Spanish opposition.

The Cork welterweight has his homecoming later this month in Dublin on the Red Corner Promotions ‘Unfinished Business’ card at the National Stadium – and he could box for the BUI Celtic title.

Murphy’s opponent for the February 25th bill will be Avelino Vazquez [4(0)-2(0)].

The Vigo puncher is a solid all-rounder, winning four times at home and losing twice on the road – one of which was a highly debatable decision.

A normally back-foot boxer, the Spaniard is not adverse to being drawn into a war and, as is almost a natural characteristic of their fighters, has a good engine.

As the 26 year old hails from the Galicia region in Northern Western Spain, he could therefore eligible to fight for the BUI Celtic title, and it is hoped that he will be authorised to box the Macroom favourite over eight rounds for the belt.

Also set to feature on the Luke Keeler v Lewis Taylor-headlined card are Eric Donovan, Lynn Harvey, Stevie Collins, Allan Phelan, Connor Coyle, Jay Byrne, Chris Blaney, and debutant Thomas Finnegan.

Tickets for ‘Unfinished Business’ cost €40 (unreserved) and €60 (ringside) and are available from the boxers involved on the bill.
