Betting Odds on who will be Carl Frampton’s next opponent

The dust has settled on a crazy weekend in Belfast and, with no fight to reflect on, most Irish boxing fans are keen to find out what’s next for Carl Frampton.

‘The Jackal’ was due to face Andres Gutierrez in a homecoming bout at the SSE Odyssey Arena on Saturday, live on Channel 5, but saw the clash shelved due to a freak accident suffered by the Mexican.

Gutierrez slipped and fell in the shower, leaving him with facial lacerations and severe dental damage, forcing the fight to be cancelled.

The 24 year old still wants to take on Frampton once he recovers, but he is just one of many options.

Betway’s Head of PR Alan Alger described how “Carl Frampton fans have been left wondering what’s next for The Jackal after a bizarre 24 hours which saw the Irishman miss weight and then have his fight cancelled due to injuries suffered by Andres Gutierrez.”

“Frampton is 2/5 to reschedule his fight with the Mexican next, although a world title dust-up with IBF World featherweight champion Lee Selby could turn the Irishman’s head at 5/2.”

“Meanwhile, it seems an unlikely Frampton will step into the ring with Leo Santa Cruz for a trilogy fight next and that bout is priced at 8/1.”

Cyclone Promotions confirmed in the aftermath of the accident that they were in talks with Gutierrez’s team to refix the fight, and the Mexican himself has stated that he will be ready to return to the Titanic City in November.

However, with time being of the essence for the 30 year old Frampton, he has stated his desire to fight for a world title in his next bout, making the 5/2 prize on a Selby showdown looking like good value.
