Noely Murphy scores win in battle of the undefeated fighters on big Broner-Garcia card

Cork welterweight Noely Murphy tonight claimed another impressive win on a big card.

The Macroom man was in action in the early stages of the Mikey Garcia v Adrien Broner undercard at the Barclays Centre in New York and scored the third successive eight-round win of his career.

His fourth fight of the year, and the third fight of his career in the big Big Apple venue, Murphy outpointed previously undefeated Dominican Julio Cesar Sanchez.

Weighing in at a career-lowest 142.25lbs as he moves towards light welter, the talented Rebel was in control on the Showtime bill, outlanding his islander opponent by a large margin.

Murphy was pushed by the Caribbean fighter but the result was never really in doubt, with the Irish boxer taking the fight on the cards with scores of 80:72, 79:73, and 78:74.

The win sees Lou DiBella-promoted Murphy move to 11(2)-0 ahead of perhaps another Irish fight date, while Sanchez falls to 11(6)-1(0) following the first career defeat.
