Noely Murphy to fight former EU Champion in Dublin headline fight

The headline fight for the big Dublin show next weekend has been confirmed.

Red Corner Promotions run their fourth card in less than a year on Saturday October 7th with ‘Champions Elect’ at the National Stadium.

Cork light welterweight Noely Murphy [11(2)-0] will top the bill in Dublin against a former EU Champion. The New York-based fighter will face Hungarian Gyorgy Mizsei Jr [25(15)-20(8)-1] over eight rounds.

Following a Hungarian title win in 2013, the Magyar upset Cuban-born Italian Brunet Zamora via split decision to claim the EBU-EU lightweight title.

He would lose it in his first defence to Jean Pierre Bauwens and would subsequently unsuccessfully challenge Emiliano Marsili for the full EBU title – before losing to Sandor Martin for the light welterweight EU belt.

Other notable names on Mizsei’s record, all losses, include Derry Mathews (TKO5), Denys Berinchyk (PTS6), Terry Flanagan (PTS8), Bradley Saunders (TKO4), Thomas Stalker (PTS6), Scott Harrison (TKO4), and Steve Jamoye (PTS8).

He also has Irish previous, having been outpointed over six by Anthony Crolla at the 3Arena on the Macklin-Heiland undercard in November 2015.

Mizsei comes into the bout in good form following two big results in Finland. Last December he held prospect Jarkko Putkonen to an eight round draw before defeating him over eight in a rematch this May.

The fight tops a bill which also features BUI Celtic title fights for Craig O’Brien and Chris Blaney, Vladimir Belujsky v Manny Bique, Allan Phelan, Victor Rabei, and the professional debuts of Karl Kelly and Craig McCarthy.
