No confirmation on whether reports of Irish boxer failing Rio drug test are true
There is no official confirmation that an Irish boxer has failed a drug test ahead of the RIO Games despite reports otherwise.
This afternoon the Irish Examiner claimed an Irish male boxer has allegedly tested positive for a banned substance.
According to their sources a recent test showed positive results for a banned substance
No official confirmation of the alleged positive sample has been given by Sport Ireland or the Olympic Council of Ireland and the AIBA have tweeted the following.
AIBA cannot confirm that an Irish boxer has failed a drugs test, despite reports. They say it’s currently a matter for the Irish authority.

The Examiner understood that the boxer was subjected to a domestic test in Ireland before travelling to Rio, but news of the positive sample only emerged in Rio today.
It’s not know what the alleged substance was, nor what action will be taken, but a ban from Rio can be expected for the unknown fighter in question if indeed the reports are true.
