MEDAL ALERT: Jordan Myers blasts his way to bronze at European Youths

Relentless Sligo middleweight Jordan Myers guaranteed Ireland’s second bronze medal of the European Youth Championships in Turkey this afternoon.

Myers joined Galway’s Gabriel Dossen in Friday’s semi finals following an aggressive win against Serbian Djozdic Buksic.

The Sligo slugger march forward for every second of the nine minutes, pushing the Serb to the ropes and landing heavy shots up close.

Buksic was landing some nice single shots from the outside, and felt hard done by with the decision, but 2013 European Schoolboys gold medalist Myers was just too strong and landed too much in the eyes of the judges.

There was no joy earlier though for Paddy Donovan. The Limerick light welter and Irish team captain was extremely unlucky to lose to home favourite and reigning two-time world champion Tugrulhan Erdemir in a repeat of their 2015 World Junior final.

Donovan was distraught at the decision following a fight that he and coaches John Conlan and Zaur Antia felt he won.
