Massive title opportunity for Alfredo Meli

Jamie Conlan won’t be the only Belfast fighter challenging for a Commonwealth title on April 30.

Although he doesn’t appear on TV card like his super flyweight counterpart Alfredo Meli has also been afforded the chance to attain the rainbow strap and progress his career significantly.

The 25 year old will fight British prospect Sam Sheedy (16-1) for the light middleweight Commonwealth crown in Sheffield.

Meli has campaigned at middleweight for his entire career, but will drop down to a weight people have always suggested he should campaign at in a bid to claim a first career title.

‘Fredo’s’ proved he was domestic level ready when he drew with fellow prospect Conrad Cummings last time out in a highly entertaining Celtic title middleweight clash, but will be looking to go one better against Sheedy this time round.

‘Speedy’ Sheedy, who like Meli is a southpaw has won the BBBofC Central Area title and holds a win over former Commonwealth champion and European challenger Bradley Pryce, but lost to Navid Mansouri the fight before last.
