Magee wont be complacent
5 September 2010 – Cormac Campbell
European super-middleweight champion Brian Magee has said that the prospect of a World title fight has not crossed his mind ahead of his first title defence against Roman Aramyan in Dublin on Saturday.
Magee claimed the title in impressive fashion in January with a stoppage victory over Denmarks Mads Larsen and now faces Armenian Warrior Aramyan at the National Stadium.
Im favourite this time, which is different from the last fight, when I went in heavily against the odds, Magee told irish-boxing.com at the launch of the Belfast Boxing Circle exhibition in Belfast City Hall.
But odds dont mean anything, its all about on the night and who performs.
As such, the Bernardo Checa trained southpaw isnt leaving anything to chance stating he was on the weight a full week out from fight night.
At the end of the day, what Ive learned from experience is that nothing will happen if this fight doesnt go according to plan. We are always trying new things and I have a great training partner in Ian Young, an ex K1 fighter. In between boxing training we are trying out new things so I am really enjoying preparations.
A world title fight hasnt been on my mind, but everyone brings it up when I am talking to them.
