Luke Keeler secures big sink or swim fight

Luke Keeler has been handed the chance to avenge a heart breaking Valentines Day defeat by Eddie Hearn.

‘Cool Hand’ will face Tom Doran (16-0) the man who ruined his Prizefighter dream back in 2014 on the big April 2 Liverpool fight card topped by a Calum Smith vs Mohoumadi World title eliminator.

The 28 year old middleweight lost by a round against the Welsh fighter in the semi final of the knockout tournament despite suffering a broken hand in the quarters.

The Dubliner has regularly called for a rematch, but felt his chances were slim due to the fact he didn’t qualify to challenge for the domestic titles the Prizefighter champion would most likely pursue.

However, after impressing against Adam Jones in Birmingham last Saturday Hearn revealed he has made the ‘cracking little’ match up for Liverpool in April.

With just 11 pro fights under his belt it’s hard to call this a defining moment in the career of Keeler, but there is a sense that Hearn has pitted the two against each other to see which 160lbs prospect he will throw the mighty promotional power of Matchroom behind going forward.

The bout which is expected to be for an International title is the most important in the Celtic Warrior Gym puncher’s career, but it plays right into his all or nothing 2016 game plan and victory will kick the Ballyfermot favourite on significantly.
