Low Blows: The Mighty Celt Tyrone McKenna

Quickly becoming one of the biggest stories of the week on Irish-Boxing.com, ‘Low Blows’ sees Irish fighters lift the lid on what goes on in and out of the gym.

This week it is the turn of Belfast’s MGM welterweight prospect Tyrone McKenna.

Q: Hardest Trainer?
A:
Hardest trainer that I’ve trained alongside would probably be Jamie Conlan. The guy puts in serious effort in training and always wants to win, whether it’s track, or sprints, or sparring.

Q: Biggest Moaner
A:
Biggest moaner would be Anthony Cacace. The guy loves to moan about going to training and would do anything to get out of it!

Q: Funiest?
A:
Funniest has to be Paddy [Barnes] and Mick [Conlan] together. They’re a duo so I have to choose both of them!

Q: Biggest Ladies Man?
A: Patsy McAllister
, my old boxing coach [with Oliver Plunkett BC]. He always chatted up the younger women while we were away!

Q: Most Intelligent?
A:
There’s not much of them out there in the boxing world! But I’d maybe say Tommy Mac for that. He’s smarter than he looks

Q: Least Intelligent?
A:
Big Spike [O’Sullivan], the guy is a maniac. Definitely something wrong with his head haha!

Q: Hardest puncher?
A: Phil Sutcliffe.
The guy is a serious puncher, punches harder than most middleweights I’ve sparred.

Q: Most Naturally Talented?
A:
I would have to mention Anthony Cacace again. He was rarely beat in the amatuers and NEVER trained. He has serious skills.

Q: Cheapest?
A:
Cheapest is Matt Korobov. He still hasnt paid me the full amount for the two weeks of sparring we had. He said he would pay the rest after the Andy Lee fight… still waiting on that! I don’t think he was happy Andy KOd him.

Q: Worst Dancer?
A: Willie Casey.
Once I saw him in a nightclub shadow-boxing in the middle of the dancefloor!

Q: Worst Dress Sense?
A:
That award goes to Big Tommy McCarthy. He does dress good for nights out, but there’s been days I’ve seen him with a t-shirt like a crisp packet and holes in his trousers. The guy doesnt give a f*ck!

Q: Biggest Messer?
A:
Definitely Tyrone McCullagh. There’s a long list of stories on him, and being sent home from Commonwealth championships just says it all haha!
