List of Ireland’s World Championship medalists

Micheal Conlan and Micheal O’Reilly joined an elite group of Irish fighters this week by securing World Championships medals. The duo became only the tenth and eleventh Irish punchers to claim World boxing medals for their country.

Joe Ward also secured a podium place in Doha and thus became only the second Irish fighter after John Joe Nevin to win medals at two different World Championships.

Ward and Conlan move Ireland’s tally of silver medals up to three following a path only Jason Quigley as a Team Ireland member had walked previous. Indeed, Belfast’s Conlan and Moate’s Joe Ward have the chance to make history when they compete in deciders on Wednesday and Thursday respectively- as they bid to become the first Irish fighters outside Katie Taylor to win World Championship gold.
