Lee to sign with Top Rank
March 2008
Highly-rated Irish middleweight Andy Lee has revealed that he is on the verge of signing a deal with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions.
The 23-year-old Limerickman, who has won all 15 of his professional bouts to date, explained that he has been offered a contract by Arum and that “we are close to an agreement’.
“I could fight on the Kelly Pavlik undercard at Madision Square Garden in June,” Lee is quoted as saying by the Irish Sun.
“It would mean that I won’t be boxing in Ireland in May, which was mentioned after my fight in Limerick.”
Despite the likely cancellation of his proposed summer bout in Ireland, Lee insists that linking up with Arum will not see him fight less and less on home soil.
“The contract won’t affect my agreement with Brian Peters as Bob Arum actually wants me to build up my fan base in Ireland,” he stated.
