Lee to face Duddy?

4 October 2010 – Jonny Stapleton

Limerick’s Andy Lee is ready to put his career on the line in an Irish High Noon shootout with Derry favourite John Duddy.

Speaking after his latest TKO victory over veteran fighter Troy Lowry last Saturday night, the middleweight contender claimed there has never been a better time for what would prove to be a sensational all Irish clash.

Despite being continually linked to each other throughout their careers and nearly signing to fight last November, the middleweight duo previously stressed there was nothing to gain by squaring off.

However, with both fighters now reaching career crossroads, albeit for differing reasons, the fight which could rejuvenate Duddys career and gain Andy Lee the American notoriety he craves could well take place.

And the intriguing, potentially career defining clash, could take place in Ireland. Venues such as Madison Square Garden, UL Sports Arena, Limerick and the O2 Arena, Dublin have already been muted as perfect backdrops for the prestigious fight night.

There has never been a better time for myself and John to fight, former Olympian Lee explained.

It is a fight were the stakes are high and one that neither fighter can afford to lose. It would prove defining moment in our careers. It is an Irish High Noon shootout, a winner takes all fight, where both fighters will be 100 per cent fired up for battle with their reputations and careers on the line. The winner taking home more than his fight purse.
