Kelly Harrington wins first fight since World Championships
Dublin light welterweight Kelly Harrington returned to the ring last night for the first time since her World Championships medal-winning run in May.
Since claiming silver in Kazakhstan, the Glasnevin BC has impressed as a boxing pundit for RTÉ’s Olympic coverage, but she was back between the ropes yesterday in Waterford.
It wasn’t an easy comeback win for the 26 year old either.
Representing Munster for a night in Dungarvan on a Munster v Australia show, Harrington defeated World Championships bronze medalist Skye Nicolson in a cagey encounter.
The Aussie shared the podium with Harrington back in May, but it was the first time the pair had shared a ring. Both were defeated by China’s eventual gold medalist Yang Wenlu in Astana.
The Dublin star and Tokyo 2020 hopeful said afterwards that “I am honoured to have gotten the chance to share the ring with a World class opponent in Ireland.”
