Kelly Harrington has return to lightweight postponed

Kelly Harrington has been dealt a frustrating blow to end her 2016.

The 2016 World Championships silver medalist was due to box on Friday night at the National Stadium in an international match against England, but has been forced off the card due to her opponent’s withdrawal.

Sarah Dunne of Bury ABC has fallen ill and will no longer be travelling to Dublin with the English side.

Harrington was due to make the move down to lightweight on the night as we enter into the Tokyo Olympic cycle. Instead the Glasnevin boxer will have to wait until the Elite Seniors in February where she will battle it out with the likes of Amy Broadhurst and Shauna O’Keefe for the spot held by Katie Taylor for over a decade.

Eight bouts remain on the card
52kg Brendan Irvine v Ishmal Khan
56kg Stephen McKenna v Louie Lynn
57kg Moira McElligott v Raven Chapman
60kg George Bates v Cory O’Regan
64kg Sean McComb v Mason Smith
75kg Steven Donnelly v Lewis Richardson
81kg Joe Ward v George Crotty
91kg Darren O’Neill v Chevron Clarke
