Katie Taylor to fight for Irish title for first time

OLYMPIC, World and European champion Katie Taylor looks set to fight for the right to be crowned Irish National Elite Championship for the first time.

Taylor has collected a number of titles over the years, but didn’t have to throw a punch as no one weighed in against her.

This year reigning under 22 and intermediate champion Louise Donohoe, who nine national titles at various levels, has entered in the 60kg division and looks set to face Taylor on finals night.

It must be said that some fighters have put their name forward in previous years, but have failed to weigh in and as a result haven’t traded leather with the greatest female puncher on the planet.

EU bronze medallist Alanna Audley-Murphy looked set to challenge last year, but was forced to withdraw due to a family bereavement.
