Katie Taylor: I had to dig deep to win gold
IRISH sport legend Katie Taylor claims she had to dig deep to claim her eighteenth major tournament gold in Baku on Saturday afternoon.
The girl with the Midas touch defeated Estelle Mossely by unanimous decision to add European Championship gold to her sensational collection, but claims she had to battle fatigue and a tough challenge to ensure victory.
Such is the talent of the Bray BC lightweight that she is massive favourite to win every tournament she enters and indeed she delivered once again in Baku and the first European Championship.
However she claims she had to go to the well to win a fight in which she felt tired in.
“I felt a little differently to be honest. I thought she was causing me a little bit of trouble,” Taylor told Inside the Games.
“I just felt a little bit tired, my feinting wasn’t there. I should have been feinting a little bit more.
“It was just one of those things. Sometimes you go into the ring feeling a little bit tired. You still have to dig deep and pull through and that’s the sign of a great champion.”
