Jamie Conlan Makes Rematch Offer after Wood Fight Cancellation

Jamie Conlan let Leigh Wood know he has a date and a willing opponent if the WBA regular world champion is in need of a fight.

The Nottingham fighter yesterday pulled out of his proposed September 24, Motor Point Arena hosted title defence against Mauricio Lara.

Conlan Boxing bossman Jamie Conlan sympathized with the Brit but also seen the news as an opportunity to try open discussions re making a Wood- Michael Conlan rematch.

The Olympic medal winner, who suffered a first pro career defeat to Wood in March, will fight in Belfast in December and would be more than willing to take on the title holder if he was rematch keen.

Speaking online former world title challenger Jamie Conlan said:

Wood was forced out of the Matchroom card with a bicep injury and there has been strong suggestion the bout is postponed rather than cancelled.

However, there is no doubt Team Conlan would have opened a line of discussion with Eddie Hearn to see if a December rematch is an option, and with a repeat being a more lucrative option there is still hope.
