James Cahill chops through Goluch to grab debut win

Wicklow welter James Cahill proved tonight just why so many people in Irish boxing are talking about him.

The 19 year old southpaw made his pro debut on the ‘Celtic Clash 3:Building Champions’ bill

The St Teresa’s youngster took on Tomasz Goluch in his pro bow

The Polish fighter came out swinging, targeting Cahill’s body, but the Garden County man would stun Goluch midway through the round. The Pole staggered to the ropes as Cahill poured in for the finish, but Goluch managed to latch on and cling to weather the storm.

Cahill upped the intensity in the second round as Goluch went into survival mode, and he almost had him gone in the closing seconds with a flurry of uppercuts on the inside.

Goluch finally hit the floor in the third following yet another furious barrage by ‘Chopper,’ Cahill went in for the finish, throwing everything at the journeyman who barely made it out of the round.,

The ultra-aggressive Cahill continued to press the action in the fourth and final round, and twice had Goluch stunned, but the tricky Pole managed to see the final bell.

Following four one-sided rounds, the final card read 40-35 in favour of Cahill.

The maiden victory allows the teenage talent to kick off his pro career at 1(0)-0, while Goluch falls to 4(2)-9(5) for his night’s work.
