Irish Olympic team to face Russia at National Stadium

Ireland will an International Test Match (no scores taken) versus a Russian Select team on Friday 1st July in the National Stadium.

The Irish line-up will include the six male boxers who have qualified for the Rio Olympics: Paddy Barnes (49g), Brendan Irvine (52kg), Mick Conlan (56kg), David Oliver Joyce (60kg), Steven Donnelly (69kg), and Joe Ward (81kg).

A Russian line-up has yet to be confirmed, but could include their eight qualified Olympians: Vasily Yegorov (49kg), Misha Aloyan (52kg), Vladimir Nikitin (56kg), Adlan Abdurashidov (60kg), Vitaly Dunaytsev (64kg), Andrey Zamkovoy (69kg), Artem Chebotarev (75kg), and Evgeny Tischenko (91kg).

The night could feature a rematch between Conlan and Nikitin, and a chance for the Belfast man to avenge his 2013 World Championships quarter final loss.

there could also be a meeting between Steven Donnelly and the man who helped send him to Rio 2016, Andrey Zamkovoy. Zamkovoy defeated Razhab Butaev in the Russian Championships last year to force a reallocation of Olympic qualification slots and give Donnelly a berth in Brazil.

Indeed, it offers fans the chance to watch some of the Irish stars in action for the last time as ‘amateurs’ as it is assumed that Barnes, Conlan, and Donnelly, in particular, are likel to turn pro following the Olympics

TICKETS: €5 for Children <14’s €10 for Adults Tickets will be available on the door. Doors Opening @ 6.30pm DJ on the night.
