Ireland will not enter team at upcoming European Championships

The Irish Athletic Boxing Association have announced that they will not send a team to the 2016 European Women’s Youth and Junior Championships in Ordu, Turkey which is scheduled to commence September 18th.

IABA President Pat Ryan confirmed that “following consultation with the IABA Central Council it has been decided that Ireland will not compete at the 2016 edition of the Championships.”

The team members were told by the IABA President of the decision at their ongoing training camp at the National Stadium in Dublin this morning.

The IABA intends to develop the two squads at a number of upcoming international events instead.

No further comment or explaination was given.

Up to 23 boxers could have been sent acroos both age groups.

At the previous edition of the Championships in Keszthely, Hungary, Ireland took home nine medals.
