Instant Replay – Gary Cully Demands Dangerous Jose Felix Rematch

Gary Cully [16(10)-1(1)] has taken a leaf from Katie Taylor’s book and wants an instant rematch with his Dublin defeater.

Like headline act Taylor, Chief Support Cully lost on his big pro Dublin debut at the 3Arena on May 20.

The Kildare fighter was shocked and stopped by clever and powerful Mexican Jose Felix Jr on the massive Matchroom card.

It’s a defeat Cully and his team are confident he can bounce back from – and it’s understood it’s a reverse ‘The Diva’ wants to rectify straight away.

While his promoter, Eddie Hearn, who still backs Cully to go on and win a world title, has been talking about a mini rebuild and some get-back into the swing of things fights, the son of Sarto wants an instant repeat.

Rumour suggests Cully has demanded a Felix Jr re-run and if the Mexican plays ball he should have his wish granted in November.

After activating her rematch clause, undisputed lightweight champion, Taylor will fight Chantelle Cameron again later this year. Matchroom hope to bring that fight and an Irish-influenced card back to the 3Arena in November.

Cully will definitely appear and if he gets his way the lightweight will be handed the chance to avenge his first and only career defeat.

It’s a brave move considering how the first fight ended but Cully is confident he has the beating of the Mexican who once went to war with Tyrone McKenna. It seems the Pete Taylor-trained coach sees a rematch as a chance to get back on track toward stardom without having to take a major detour.
