Sean Turner’s on-off love affair with boxing is back ON again.
‘Big Sexy’ hasn’t fought since he was stopped by Nathan Gorman this time last year and has flirted with retirement since.
However, the heavyweight, who holds an amateur win over Joe Joyce, is currently sparring Hughie Fury ahead of the 24-year-old’s clash with big punching Samuel Peter.
Being back in the ring seems to have given the Shankill man a taste for action again and he is hoping to secure a big fight before the year is out.
The honest big man admits he needs to get himself fit and focused again, but thinks he is a fight date away from bring that process to the next level.
“First all I have to get back to full fitness and fighting shape. I want to get fully fit and fully focused and get some dates,” Turner said when talking to British Boxers.
“At the start of the year I was offered some fights against the likes of the WBO European heavyweight champion, twice I agreed to that and twice he pulled out. I was offered the fight with some Ukranian for the WBF belt, agreed and of course again he pulls out.”
“It’s been a disheartening year. I just need to focus now, get the head down and look forward.”
There are some who will point out they have heard this tale before, but Turner is adamant he is hungry for success and claims he won’t be calling it day until he wins some form of title.
“I am not retiring till I have a belt around my waist no matter how long I have to go on for. This year is about getting back up on my feet, maybe by the end of the year get a big fight with a bit of luck and then go into next year all guns blazing.”
“I am back hungry. I want fights. I will fight anyone. There is no more half arsed messing about.”
