‘Hopefully I can take advantage of this’ – Gutierrez gives off Andy Ruiz happy to be here vibe
There was a real sense of ‘happy to be here’ from Miriam Gutierrez [13(5)-0] at the final press ahead of her fight with Katie Taylor [16(6)-0] today.
The Spaniard challenges Taylor for all four of Taylor’s lightweight world titles on card free to air across various sky platforms on Saturday night.
It’s a potentially life and legacy changing fight for the former European champion, but a fight she seemingly goes into in relaxed mood.
It’s quite possible the undefeated 37-year-old is playing possum Andy Ruiz style.
She certainly didn’t bring the aggressive pre fight game Taylor’s most recent foe’s have. Despite claiming she is focused on the job at hand she made pre fight mortal sin suggesting she was ‘hopeful’ of victory.
“I’m really looking forward to the fight coming around. It has been a long wait, particularly being in a bubble, it’s a bit different but I’m really looking forward to the fight. I can’t wait for it to come around,” she said.

“Of course I am really focused, that’s not to say I don’t admire her, I have followed her career both in the amateur ranks and now in the professionals. We’ve been working really hard for this so I am totally focused.
“It’s a lovely situation to be in and it’s a big opportunity for me. I have been working really hard for it so hopefully I can take advantage of this.”
