Hearn eyeing WBA world title shot and not Ormond next for Crolla

THE chances of Stephen Ormond getting his gloves on popular Manchester lightweight Anthony Crolla look slim after Eddie Hearn revealed he hopes to secure a WBA world title shot for ‘Million Dollar’ this Summer.

Fight fans took to twitter to express their desire to see a clash between WBO champion Ormond and Crolla, who beat John Murray in exciting fashion to take the WBO intercontinental title recently.

Team Ormond would certainly welcome a bout with the Joe Gallagher trained fighter, but with different TV companies behind bout fighters it was always going to prove difficult to make.

However, with a World title fight in the making the chances of seeing the former Derry Matthew’s foes in the ring together any soon seems very unlikely.

When Irish-boxing.com contacted Matchroom re a possible match up they directed us the following quotes from Eddie Hearn’s Daily Mail column.

“I have to mention Anthony Crolla. His win against John Murray for the WBO intercontinental lightweight title was brutal and brilliant. He took his time, soaked up some punishment off a very good fighter and stopped him late on. In my opinion, he deserves a world title shot and I will deliver it as well.

“I am now in talks with the representatives of Richar Abril, the WBA world champion, and I expect to make that fight this summer. That will be a huge night in Manchester.”
