Hanney guilty of impressive display against Innocent Anyanwu

Jake Hanney made a statement on his Irish debut at the National Stadium.

The former Australian prospect of the year showed why he was so highly-rated Down Under with a confident display against Innocent Anyanwu on the FS Promotions/Hatton Promotuons ‘The Future’ card.

The big-punching light welterweight, fighting for the first time in over a year and a half, understandably started cautiously, scoring with intelligent single shots.

The second stanza saw Hanney start to pierce the Nigerian’s guard more regularly, although Anyanwu would continue to march forward.

27 year old Hanney was buzzed by a big overhand right in the third round, but fought back well and held his own against the strong former Dutch champion.

The Dubliner had a moment of magic in the final few minutes, with a fifteen second blurring salvo that had the crowd off their feet, before he coasted the rest of the round to secure a hard-fought 39-37 victory.

The win sees the exciting Hanney improve his perfect record to 5(4)-0. The massively-game Anyanwu, who we would love to see on thee shores again, falls to 22(13)-18(4)-2.
