Golden Boy boss: I would love to make Frampton Cruz and will start talks next week

GOLDEN BOY CEO Richard Schaefer would ‘love’ to make a world title fight between WBC champ Leo Santa Cruz and Carl Frampton.

Indeed Schaefer will begin talks with the Mexican’s camp next week with Frampton high on the ‘what’s next’ agenda.

Frampton became mandatory for the WBC super bantamweight title currently in Cruz’s possession after he stopped Hugo Cazares in two rounds earlier this month. Cruz has since expressed a desire to fight the Belfast puncher and a willingness to come to Frampton’s home town for the right price.

Scott Quigg and Gullerimo Rigondeaux have also set their sights on Cruz, but talks re making a clash with ‘The Jackal’ will begin next week.

Speaking to Boxing News  Schaefer said,

“Absolutely. I would love to have a Frampton-Santa Cruz fight. I’m going to be meeting with Al Haymon, who is the adviser for Leo Santa Cruz, next week. Fight week in Vegas is like convention where all the major decision makers in boxing come together and so I’m going to be sitting down with Al and seeing if this is a fight we can get done.”
