French boxer Estelle Mossely believes that she can beat Katie Taylor if they meet in the women’s lightweight boxing final at the European Games.
Taylor has won the last 17 major tournaments she has entered including the Olympics and is favoured to extend her winning record and further cement her ‘best ever’ status by claiming European Games gold.
However, Mossely, who defeated Spain’s Jennifer Miranda Maqueda to set up a quarter-final bout against Italy’s Romina Marenda, is confident she now knows what it takes to beat the Bray boxer.
“Of course it’s possible to beat her. I fought her twice and lost twice, but I know her and I have studied her on film. I can beat her. Come the finals, we’ll see,” Marenda told reporters when asked about Taylor.
Taylor kicks off her quest for gold this afternoon (2;30 Irish time).
