Frampton respects Avalos as a fighter but not as a man

CARL Frampton says Chris Avalos earned his respect as a fighter, but not as a man.

The IBF super bantamweight Champion wasn’t to impressed with the way Avalos and his team carried themselves pre his first defence in the Odyssey Arena. The American challenger was keen to point out that he had seen noting from ‘The Jackal’ to worry him throughout the build up.

He even claimed Frampton’s world title win came against a shot Kiko Martinez. It looked like the Californian was playing the panto villain to perfection but when the curtain came down on his World title chances on Saturday night he stayed in the role.

As a result there was no Martinez Frampton post fight love in as ‘The Jackal’ claimed Avalos didn’t earn his respect as a man.

“I felt comfortable in there. He seemed slow to me,” Frampton said after the fight . “I could see everything that was coming and was hitting him with the right all night. But give him respect, he was tough. He was in my ear the whole time. He said I punched like a pussy and at the start at the fight said, ‘it is just you and me now boy’. He was still talking at the end, though I had no idea what he was saying. I wanted to teach him some manners. I gave him some respect as a fighter but not as a man.”

“He never showed me any respect in the build up to the fight and to be honest after the fight he still didn’t show me any. He came out of the ring demanding a rematch?”
