Frampton backs Conrad Cummings to pass Mittag test

Carl Frampton has backed his stablemate Conrad Cummings to put the disappointed of his draw with Alfredo Meli behind him and claim victory over Ronny Mittag.

Coalisland middleweight Cummings [10(4)-0-1] appears on the George Groves v Eduard Gutknecht on Friday November 18th at the Wembley Arena in London.

German Mittag [28(14)-2(0)-1] offers a good test for Cummings on the Channel 5-screened Cyclone bill and there will also be a World ranking up for grabs as the IBF Inter-Continental title is slated to be on the line.

It’s a return to championship fights for the Tyrone boxer following his draw with Meli last year for the BBBoC Celtic title, and Frampton believes that ‘Mr. Dynamite’ will be victorious this time round.

Two-weight World champion Frampton held the super bantamweight version of the IBF Inter-Continental belt, and the strap would help ‘The Jackal’ secure his maiden World title shot against Kiko Martinez in September 2014.

Writing in his weekly column for the Sunday Life, Frampton explained that “I know how disappointed Conrad was with his draw last year against Fredo Meli in the Waterfront Hall.”

“He’s up against German Ronny Mittag who should be a decent test at this stage of Conrad’s development and I believe he’ll get his first title.”
