Eddie Hearn ‘working hard’ to make the rematch of the best fight he’s seen live

Eddie Hearn is doing all he can to ensure Delfine Persoon  [44(18)-2(1)] fights Katie Taylor[15(6)-0] on August 22.

Irish-boxing.com has been lead to believe the fight is very close to being agreed and we are likely to see a repeat of one of the fights of 2019 next month.

The Matchroom boss didn’t confirm the fight or give any massive indication as to where he was contract wise with the Belgian and her team when he came out today, but did confirm he is working hard to ensure a repeat of the Madison Square Garden undisputed fight plays out in his Garden.

We are working hard on the Taylor versus Persoon rematch for August 22,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

“Katie wants the biggest fights out there and when Serrano pulled out, Katie immediately asked about the Persoon rematch.

“The first fight was one of the best I’ve ever seen live and as a fan I would love to see it again. Whyte versus Povetkin and Taylor versus Persoon 2 is an epic double header – let’s see if we can get it done.”

The fight became a serious possibility after another mega legacy fight with Amanda Serrano fell through.

The Bray native had hoped to fight the seven weight nine time world champion on the final Fight Camp card, only for the Brooklyn based talent not to agree terms.

Persoon’s team let it be known they were willing and talks have been in place since.

Irish-boxing.com believes those talks have been positive and the eagerly anticipated rematch moves a step closer.

If Persoon for some reason doesn’t agree WBA mandatory Miriam Gutierrez [13(5)-0] will step in as Taylor’s August 22 Fight Card opponent – and while it was an acceptable clash, it certainly doesn’t have Serrano ‘biggest female fight of all time’ or Persoon mega fight potential.
