Duty Calls for Cruise – Dynamite to take break from Boxing
Middleweight contender Darren ‘Dynamite’ Cruise [7(1)-5(0)] will put his boxing career on hold for the next few months.
The Castlerea puncher is also a soldier in the Irish army and will fly out to Syria on October 4th for six months to serve his first tour of duty with the 1st Infantry Battalion.
Cruise intends to resume boxing when he returns from the Middle East.
The MHD-promoted Roscommon man was hugely impressive during the Summer, scoring a third round stoppage over Ferenc Katona at the National Stadium in June. This came off the back of a narrow (95-96) loss in his challenge for JJ McDonagh’s Irish super middleweight title.
26 year old Cruise has been mandated by the Boxing Union of Ireland to fight Luke Keeler for the Irish middleweight belt, although it is assumed that another boxer can now take his place for the bout against the Ballyfermot fighter. The leading contender would be Tyrone’s Conrad Cummings or perhaps Alfredo Meli.
Irish-Boxing.com would like to wish Cruise a safe time and Syria and we look forward to covering his boxing career further upon his return.
