Defeat for Walsh in Baku

Belfast bantamweight Michaela Walsh has lost her Last 16 bout at the inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Up against three-time World Championships medalist, Elena Savelyeva, Walsh was outpointed over the four rounds by her experienced Russian opponent with the scorecards reading 40-36, 40-36, and 39-37.

While the confident 22 year old from Holy Family GG will be disappointed by the result – she will aim to get over this setback by qualifying for Rio 2016 via the World Championships in Kazakhstan next year.
