December fight date set for Mick Conlan – additional outing possible beforehand

Mick Conlan [8(5)-0] will fight once or twice more before the end of the year.

The Belfast featherweight had his Irish pro homecoming last month at the SSE Odyssey Arena where he took a big step-up to outpoint Brazilian former world title challenger Adeilson Dos Santos.

It was a controlled performance for the Top Rank starlet and there is a desire to keep progressing Conlan through the levels.

The 26-year-old is currently awaiting the arrival of his second child with fiancée Shauna and this arrival, due any hour now, may warrant an extended break from the ring for a man who has fought thrice in just over three months.

Conlan may well fight beforehand, but the date for the diaries is a still to-be-confirmed card in New York on Saturday December 8th.

Older brother Jamie, who plays a big part in the career of Conlan, outlined to IFL TV that “we have a date set in December, December 8th I think it is, in New York, we’ll be aiming for that long-term.”

“Whether we’ll have one before that or not, that’s something we’ll sit down in the coming weeks and discuss.”

“His baby is due next week, he’s a family man first and foremost so he’ll spend a lot more time with the family, with the baby, and Shauna.”

“The next opponent will bring different obstacles. I would like another step up with different obstacles.”

Further details on this fight date remain to be revealed although it is assumed that the venue for the fight will be either the Theater or the Arena at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan.

Following this, it is assumed, will be a return to The Garden for Conlan’s now-annual St Patrick’s Day headline appearance.
