Dean Furlong Targets ‘Punch Perfect’ Belfast Display as He Eyes Bigger Things

Dean Gonzalez Furlong is heading into Belfast with confidence, ambition and a clear message for  Benito Sanchez Garcia: he is expecting a performance to remember.

The Spain-based Wexford boxer will feature on the Unleashed card at the Ulster Hall, determined to make the most of the opportunity and use the occasion as another stepping stone in his professional career.

“I’m over the moon. Belfast has an unbelievable crowd. I had a great reception off them last time and hope to get it again,” he tells Irish-boxing.com.

“I think it’s a good stage to show what I have and will only build me,” adds the man with a strong fan base in Wexford and Spain.

That desire to progress is matched by confidence in the work already completed behind the scenes.

Speedy believes he has put together an excellent preparation and is ready to translate that work into a polished display when the bell rings.

“I’ve had a great camp and am expecting a punch-perfect performance,” he declared with confidence.

It is an emphatic assessment of his own readiness, although Furlong is under no illusions that his Mexican opponent is determined to make life difficult for him.

“He will come to fight. He is a tough, durable guy, but I just can’t see him having enough for me.

“There was a suggestion that Furlong has been brought to Belfast to help build a fight with a local. He doesn’t think that is the case but remains open to domestic clashes.

“I haven’t got my eye on anyone in particular. I was asked on the card and was more than happy to accept,” he explained.

“I’ll box anyone that’s put in front of me. If the right fight is made for the right reason, I’ll be up for it.

”Indeed, ‘Speedy Gonzalez’ is ready for any form of level up. “It’s great to have the chance to move 10-0 and I’m looking forward to big things to come after,” he said.
